Advice to my younger self about taking the 11 Plus Exams.
- Try not to be stressed when taking an exam; remain calm and treat it like any other paper you've done in preparation for the exams
- Make sure not to cram revision and practice tests in just before your exams; spread your learning throughout the year
- Remember to have fun; don't think 'I need to get this done today'
- If you are not sure how to do something don't skip it, ask for help, work on it until you are confident enough to explain it to someone else
- Make sure you know what schools you are going to be applying to so you can research their tests and what you need to study
- Keep a little book for writing down words and their meanings
- Use the sleep sandwich method to revise; 'study, sleep, revise' not 'study, revise, sleep'. This will give your brain time to process all you have learnt
- Have a rest the day before you take an exam, maybe do a little revision, but just enjoy your day and pretend the next day is a normal day
- Do not get worked up and feeling like you are going to do badly; go into the room with a positive mind set.
Poppy took her 11 Plus exams in 2021 and successfully gained entry to one of the top selective state schools in England.
