Multiplication
In column multiplication the method is similar to that done with column addition, for example:
To multiply '1275 x 7'
Starting with the units column, 5 x 7 = 35. We put 5 in the units column of the answer and carry 3 to the tens column.
We next work out the tens column, 7 x 7 = 49. Add the carried 3 which makes 52. The 2 goes into the tens column and the 5 is carried to the hundreds column.
Next, we work out the hundreds column. 2 x 7 = 14. Add the carried 5 which makes 19. The 9 goes into the hundreds column and the 1 is carried to the thousands column.
Lastly, we work out the thousands column. 1 x 7 = 7. Add the carried 1 which makes 8.
Therefore the answer is 8925.
